Every voice counts in shaping new Central Library

Libraries are meant to inspire all. This means EVERYONE has a say in the future of the new Central Library and the library system – including future users.

“Every voice counts,” says Julia Brewster, Administration Support Librarian with Calgary Public Library. “More than 81,000 children have library cards, and we have almost 19,500 teen members. It’s important to get their input on what they value and want from libraries.”

The biggest challenge was ensuring the children and youth engagement was age-appropriate.

“Our children and youth engagement activities are interactive and fun,” continues Brewster. “We use colouring, drawing, and game playing to find out what matters most to them.”
